Day 3

Goring on Thames > Petersfield

< Day 2

The flattest, but wettest day.. We set off along the river on the north bank of the Thames from Goring. Lovely rural tracks into the urban sprawl of Reading. Plenty of options here for food, and bike shops.

And nicely led out of town along the Kennet and Avon canal to Green park, M4 and Spencers Wood.

Most of the trails and tracks today were waterlogged due to all the rain. So it was slower going with standing water and riding up streams shown in the photo here.

A variety of lanes, tracks and roads to Farnham, quick pit stop at a coffee shop, then leaving town we entered the beautiful Surrey Hills. It amazes me this area is so densely populated, but we had it all to ourselves (in the rain)..

As well as the standing water, we had to deal with sand, which is slightly easier to deal with when wet, but we had a few bike / hike sections.

Last challenging part was the climb up Devil’s punchbowl into the mist. Lots more technical rock hopping, but the descent was lovely into Hindhead and Bramshott.

From there it was directly south into Petersfield.

Waited a few mins for our train out, after of course the obligatory take away ales from Tesco express.

This was such a diverse range of conditions and trails today, I’d love to try it when it is a bit drier.
